Heart Strings

Proximity
Far or Near
Hug away
Oceans Apart
The ties that knit our hearts together are best tied by hand
A handwritten letter
A hand that dialed the phone
A hand that reached out to squeeze yours
The hand that sewed the quilt; built the table
The hand who carried the heavy load
A hand that lent the help you needed
The hand that was lifted in surrender that time you pleaded
The hand that held the picture straight as you sunk the nail
The hand that brushed the tear from your cheek
The hand that held steady when you were having
"one of those days"
The hand that tipped your chin to kiss your lips tenderly
The hand that put the dishes away, the trash cans at the curb and the mint on your pillow, just because
The hand that drew you a picture, slightly abstract in nature,
presently gracing the refrigerator door
The hand that carved his initials next to yours into that tree
that told your heart "He loves ME!"
The hand that waved goodbye, was used to blow you a kiss
The hand that wrapped around your shoulder when the game rode on the last play, and you were the one that missed.
The hand that grabbed yours be it, mother, father, sister or brother, son or little daughter, friend or lover.
The hand that gripped yours to say,
"I am with you whatever,
I assure you of this."
These knots tied in love, by hand
from my heart to yours; it's a particular, exceptional, singular kind of craftsmanship never found in stores.
